How this calculator works
It reads your two dates as calendar days and counts the whole days between them. The maths runs in UTC, so a clock change (daylight saving) never adds or drops a day. Enter the dates in any order and the count comes back positive.
You get four ways to read the same gap:
- Total days — the raw count between the dates.
- Weeks and days — the same figure split into full weeks plus leftover days.
- Years, months and days — a true calendar breakdown, so a month means an actual month, not 30 days.
- Working and weekend days — Monday to Friday counted separately from Saturday and Sunday.
Worked example. From 1 January 2026 to 31 January 2026 is 30 days between the dates. Tick Include the end date and it becomes 31, the full length of January. Of those 31 days, 22 are working days and 9 fall on a weekend.
Counting weeks between dates
The tool gives you weeks automatically, split into full weeks plus the leftover days, because "six weeks and two days" is easier to picture than "44 days". You do not have to do anything: enter the dates and the week count is there with the rest.
It is a plain division, seven days to a week, counted from your start date rather than from a Monday. So 44 days is 6 weeks and 2 days regardless of which day of the week you started on. If you need whole calendar weeks running Monday to Sunday, that is a different question and this is not the tool for it.
When to include the end date
Leave it unticked to measure a gap: how long until a deadline, or the notice period between two dates. Tick it to measure a length that owns both ends, like a hotel stay counted in nights versus days, a hire period, or annual-leave days booked from the first morning to the last.
A note on working days
The working-day figure counts weekdays only. It does not remove public holidays, because those differ by country, and within the UK they differ between England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Common questions
Does the calculator include the end date?
By default it counts the gap between the two dates, so the end date is not included. Tick “Include the end date” to count both the first and last day, which is how holiday and hire-period counts usually work.
How are working days counted?
Working days count Monday to Friday and exclude Saturdays and Sundays. Public holidays are not deducted, because they vary by country and region.
Can I count backwards from a future date?
Yes. Enter the dates in either order. The calculator sorts them and shows the number of days between, so the result is always a positive count.
How many weeks are there between two dates?
The tool works this out for you and shows it alongside the day count, as full weeks plus any leftover days. It divides by seven from your start date, so it does not depend on which weekday you began on.
