Short version: Toolbay does not want your data and does not collect it.
What you type
The calculators run entirely in your browser. The dates, numbers and words you enter are never sent to a server, and are not stored anywhere. Close the tab and they are gone.
One exception worth knowing: the countdown tool puts your chosen date and label into the page address, so the countdown can be bookmarked and shared. That happens in your browser, and the address is only seen by anyone you choose to send it to.
Cookies and analytics
We ask before we set anything. On your first visit you get a notice at the foot of the page. Until you accept, Google is never contacted, no script is downloaded from it and no cookie is set. Refuse, or ignore the notice entirely, and that stays true for good.
If you do accept, Toolbay uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which tools people use. It sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_ZB880CF99H, which recognise a returning browser so the same person is not counted twice.
What that gives us is aggregate: how many people used the VAT calculator this week, which pages they arrived on, roughly which country they were in. It does not tell us who you are, and the numbers you type into a calculator are never part of it, because those never leave your browser at all.
Every calculator works exactly the same either way. Refusing costs you nothing, and we would rather have honest numbers from people who agreed than a bigger sample from people who were not asked.
Where you stand right now
Changing your mind takes one click, because consent has to be as easy to withdraw as it was to give. Turning it off also deletes the two cookies rather than just stopping new ones, so nothing is left sitting in your browser for two years after you have said no. If you would rather not rely on ours at all, Google's opt-out add-on blocks Analytics across every site you visit.
There is no advertising network on the site. If that changes, this page changes with it, and you will be asked before anything is set.
Server logs
Like nearly every website, the hosting keeps standard access logs: the requesting IP address, the page requested, the time, and the browser's user agent. These are produced by the web server, used to keep the site running and spot abuse, and are not used to build any profile of you.
Other sites
Some pages link out, for example to gov.uk or Datamuse. Once you follow a link, that site's own privacy policy applies.
If this changes
If anything new starts setting a cookie, this page is updated first and you are asked before it runs. That is the order, and it is the whole reason the notice exists rather than an opt-out buried down here.
